A vision to expand into Colorado’s high country became a reality earlier this month , as Sheffield Homes’ first Grand County clients moved into their beautiful new mountain retreat in Fraser, Colorado. The 3,900 square foot two-story home sits on a 3+ acre lot, surrounded by lush pines and stunning views of Winter Park and surrounding peaks.
Having owned the lot for a few years, our clients waited to build their ideal vacation home until the timing was right—with architectural, financial, and design plans firmly in place. This mountain residence was created to feel both refined and deeply connected to its surroundings. Set among the trees with inspiring views framed in every window, the home captures the beauty of Colorado mountain living while offering the comfort, craftsmanship, and thoughtful detail that define every Sheffield home.
From the first approach, the home makes a memorable impression. Warm wood siding, stone accents, black-framed windows, and bold rooflines create a modern mountain exterior that still feels rooted in its natural setting. Expansive glass draws the outdoors in, making the surrounding forest and mountain views part of daily life.
The home’s layout, window placement, and outdoor living areas were all designed to make the most of its surroundings. Rather than simply placing a home on a beautiful lot, this design responds to its setting—framing the views, embracing natural light, and creating spaces that feel in harmony with the land.
Designed for long weekends, holiday gatherings, and quiet escapes, the home offers a true retreat from the moment you arrive.
Inside, the home continues the balance of mountain warmth and modern design. Stained shiplap trim crafted from beetle-kill pine adds richness and texture to the vaulted ceilings, while clean lines, open spaces, and expansive windows create a sense of light and openness throughout.
The kitchen brings together natural wood cabinetry, sleek white countertops, black fixtures, and statement lighting for a look that feels both elevated and welcoming. It’s a space designed not only for function but for gathering—the type of kitchen that naturally becomes the center of any vacation retreat.
Throughout the home, the material palette feels intentional and cohesive: wood, stone, glass, and metal work together to create depth without overwhelming the setting.
With five bedrooms, 4½ baths, a study, and spacious common areas, this home comfortably accommodates a large group. Details such as built-in bunks in one of the bedrooms upstairs promise fun memories with young cousins and grandchildren.
Grand County offers a rare blend of small-town character, wide-open landscapes, and access to some of Colorado’s most loved outdoor destinations. From Winter Park and Fraser to Granby, Grand Lake, Hot Sulphur Springs, and Kremmling, each community has its own personality while sharing the same mountain lifestyle that draws people here year after year.
Whether clients are looking for a full-time residence, a weekend getaway, or a long-term investment, Grand County offers access to skiing, hiking, fishing, boating, biking, hot springs, and the western gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. It's the type of place where lifestyle and homeownership naturally go hand in hand.
This first Grand County closing is especially meaningful because it reflects the trust our clients placed in us to guide them through the process of building a home in Colorado’s high country. Every market has its nuances, and Grand County is no exception. Mountain building brings its own set of considerations—from the site and seasons to design, logistics, and long-term livability—making preparation and clear communication essential at every step.
We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of this chapter and proud to help make the process smooth, informed, and successful from contract to closing.
For our clients, this home is more than a getaway—it is a place to gather, unwind, and return to season after season. Designed around the way they want to live, it offers a true expression of Colorado mountain living. For Sheffield Homes, it also represents a proud first in Grand County—an exciting step as we continue bringing our custom design-build approach to Colorado’s mountain communities.
