7 of the Hottest Interior Design Trends
Summer is unofficially here. As you shed your comfy sweaters and boots for t-shirts and sandals, you may also want to consider freshening up your decor with some of this year’s top interior design trends. Or, if you are building a new Colorado home, these latest ideas could be just the inspiration you’re looking for!
1. The “In Crowd”: grey, green, and muted colors
All shades of green are in this year, from lime to emerald to forest. Dark green is an exciting replacement for black when creating high contrast with light walls, because it is intense without being stark.
Gray was popular in 2016, and is still trending in 2017, now in different and deeper tones as well as paired with white. Gray complements many color palettes from deep hues like reds to softer hues like ivory.
If bold statement colors are a commitment you just can’t make, then you are in luck! In 2017, neutral colors reign. Relax with shades of white, beige, gray, camel and blush pink.
2. Tropical prints
Reflecting this year’s fashion runway, tropical prints are turning up in wallpaper and designer fabrics. Accessories, such as throw pillows on a solid couch, are a great way to have fun with bold prints, while not overly committing to them.
3. Textures
Adding and combining textures brings life to a space and makes it inviting. Mixing textures continues to be prevalent, from tables to light fixtures to wall treatments to fabrics, because it creates contrast and keeps a room from appearing flat. Experiment by mixing the fabrics of decorative pillows or throws. Use contrasting textures to give emphasis to a particular piece. For example, surrounding a rough texture with a smooth texture will make the rough piece stand out.
4. Marble and brass combinations
Marble and brass remain strong in kitchens and baths. Marble is prized in these areas for its clean and natural appearance, while brass adds a touch of glamour.
5. Quirky lighting
Light fixtures continue to serve a greater purpose than merely illuminating a space. Express your personality and style in your choice of lighting–both hard-wired and not. Bring some charm to the dining room with a memorable chandelier or to other rooms with unique table lamps. Don’t be afraid to add a pop of color or a unique texture; lighting is easy to change down the road when styles move toward something new.
6. Bronze
While brass is popular in kitchens and baths, bronze is showing up this year throughout the house in lighting and accessories, such as vases and decorative bowls. Bronze is appealing for its warm, classic sensibility that works well with many different decorating styles.
