Details Make the Difference – 4 Ways to Elevate Style
If you’re looking for ideas to update your existing home, or wondering how best to allocate the design budget in the construction of your new home, take a few tips from one of our recently-closed homes at The Estates on Gage Hill. Our clients made the most of their design dollars by focusing on several standout features to create focal points of interest.
1. Start with the Exterior
While the choice in color and style of brick, stone, and/or stucco affect the character of a home, what better way to make a statement than with a bold garage door? The choice to install a striking black garage door with cross-timber, hardware, and paned window details lends immediate distinction to the home. The black echoed in the brackets above the window and on the front door give continuity to the look as a whole.
2. Use Pops of Color
Inside the home, neutral shades prevail, with occasional accents in painted cabinetry, such as the those in the master bath and kitchen island painted Hale Navy, and the Sage cabinets in the lower-level bath. These pops of color keep the home from feeling sterile, adding warmth and charm.
3. Use Varied Selections of Tile
If only one design element could be singled out as the star of this home, it would have to be the varied selections of tile featured throughout—from the monochromatic textural back-splash in the kitchen to the stunning marble tile on the master bath floor that continues up the shower walls. Even the classic white subway tile used in a secondary bath, when installed in a herringbone pattern, takes the ordinary up a notch. The coin tile splash in the same bathroom, though not a wide expanse, has a considerable impact as it beautifully enhances the brushed nickel plumbing and bath hardware fixtures. In another bathroom, Spanish-style porcelain tile flooring provides the perfect foil against the oil-rubbed bronze shower door and bath fixtures.
4. Use Plumbing Fixtures to Add Vitality to Design Aesthetic
In a similar statement-making fashion, look to plumbing fixtures to add vitality to the design aesthetic. Case in point: the showerhead with detachable sprayer in the master bath. The modern, architectural lines of the brushed nickel fixture pose a striking and beautiful contrast to the free-form organic flow of the surrounding marble tile. The installation of a sophisticated, clear Euro-style frameless shower door ensures that the fixture serves as a decorative accessory in the room as well as for its intended purpose.
